''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'' is the eleventh ''Naruto'' film based on the manga by Masashi Kishimoto and directed by Hiroyuki Yamashita in his directorial debut. It is part of the larger to commemorate the series' 15th anniversary. The film, first teased in the post-credits scene of the previous film, ''The Last: Naruto the Movie'', tells stories about the children of the original series' main characters. As with the previous film and ''Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie'', Kishimoto was once again involved in the project as scenario writer and character designer, and is part of the official canon of the ''Naruto'' manga, set after the events of the series. The film was released on August 7, 2015, to commercial success, and became the highest-grossing film in the series. ==Plot== The film opens a fierce battle between Sasuke Uchiha and a yet unnamed adversary in a different dimension of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's palace ruins, while a mysterious figure observes from above. Many years after the events of the main series, Naruto Uzumaki is the Seventh Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village, which in this time of peace has grown to become a large city with all of the latest advancements in technology. Naruto is married to Hinata Hyuga and they have two children, Boruto and Himawari Uzumaki. Boruto is a Genin in a team under Konohamaru Sarutobi the Third Hokage's grandson: with Sasuke and Sakura's daughter Sarada Uchiha, and a mysterious boy called Mitsuki. Boruto is upset that Naruto focuses more on his Hokage duties than their family. Sarada, who dreams of becoming Hokage, scolds Boruto for not taking his training seriously. Because they are childhood friends and rivals, Boruto feels the need to look good in front of Sarada. When Boruto learned his father did not keep his promise to come home for Himawari's birthday party, substituting himself with a Shadow Clone instead, the boy defenestrates his father's tattered old orange jumpsuit. The jumpsuit was found by Sasuke on his way to warn Naruto of the powerful enemy he encountered. After Boruto learns about Sasuke from Sarada, he asks Sasuke to train him to become strong enough to surpass Naruto. Sasuke agrees on the condition Boruto can perform the Rasengan having to learn it from Konohamaru, while Sasuke leaves to converse with Naruto about the scroll he obtained, as well as about their childhood days and the new generation. When Boruto presented his completed but undersized Rasengan to Sasuke, Sasuke honors his promise despite feeling unconvinced, and teaches Boruto the shuriken jutsu to prepare for the upcoming Chunin Exams while telling him more about Naruto. In the Chunin Exams, Boruto's team excel in the first two stages thanks to Sarada's Sharingan. However, when Boruto ostensibly defeats Shikamaru and Temari's son Shikadai Nara in the third stage with a multi-shadow clone jutsu, Naruto discovers Boruto had used a device that can store and release jutsu. Therefore he disqualifies his son and declares Shikadai the winner of the match. Outraged, a spat between father and son ensues before two figures made their presence known, one of them Sasuke's attacker: Kinshiki Otsutsuki. Alongside his partner Momoshiki Otsutsuki, they are revealed to be after Kurama. Momoshiki proceeds to attack the arena while fighting Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto eventually sacrifices himself to protect Sasuke and Boruto, and entrusts Boruto's safety to Sasuke. Sensing that Naruto is still alive but in another dimension, Sasuke allies himself with the remaining Kage - the Fifth Kazekage Gaara, Fifth Raikage Darui, Sixth Mizukage Chojūro, and Fourth Tsuchikage Kurotsuchi to rescue him. Donning Naruto's old jumpsuit and Sasuke's old forehead protector, Boruto insists on joining them to make amends to his father. They arrive in the other dimension to find Naruto bound by the Otsutsuki duo, and the four Kage engage in battle against Kinshiki. When the Kage fail to subdue him, Naruto and Sasuke fight as well, but Momoshiki eventually turns Kinshiki into a pill and swallows him to increase his strength. Overpowered by Momoshiki's new strength and left without many options, Naruto lends his chakra to Boruto while Sasuke distracts Momoshiki long enough for Boruto to create a giant Rasengan. There's been speculation that Boruto's Rasengan is pretty similar to Old Man Ohnoki's Atomic Particle no Jutsu, as it begins small and then dissolves into invisible particles that knock out the opponent. This would be the twist of the movie, with Boruto being a Particle no Jutsu user. Momoshiki ends up absorbing his own chakra along with Boruto's giant sized Rasengan which is his ultimate demise. In the process Boruto severely burns his right arm with the attack, ending the threat once and for all. After Boruto reconciles with his father, Boruto resolves to become a ninja like Sasuke, who protects the village from the shadows. Boruto also promises Sarada that he will protect her if she becomes Hokage, eliciting her to blush in a gesture suggesting they have romantic feelings for each other. Konohamaru is chased by a wild panda and Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki jump from the Hokage Monument into mid air, with Boruto creating a Rasengan. In a post-credit scene, during their missions, Boruto, and Sarada ask Mitsuki who his parents are, and he reveals he is the son of Orochimaru (not specifying whether he is the father or mother), surprising both of them.
